JAWS

Hawaii

Hello my name is Amanda and Evan, and this summer we went to Hawaii for our surfing trip and we came across Jaws. Jaws is a Hawaiian wave that happens only five times a year. Its made when a wave hits coral under the sea, which causes the bottom of the wave to slow down as the top continues its pace and it rises really high and arcs over the bottom. The lava from volcanoes has nutrients which helps the coral grow, therefore creates this massive wave. The main purpose of jaws and other waves is to attract surfers or tourist to come to the beautiful islands of Hawaii. Overall, earths water can create massive waves.

Earthquakes

Where do most earthquakes tend to happen?
1.generally most earthquakes happen, according to the map, on the north american map.
2.specifically, its on Alaska and California

Why do you think that is?
the plates change and cause stress and when there is to much stress it causes the plates to fault. and the movement causes the earth to tremble and an earthquake ocures.

What is this area called?
this is called a boundry

The closest earthquake to manitou springs would be the one in new mexico. its magnitude was a 2.8, it happened about 5 days ago at 1:02 am. its depth was about 3 miles, there was about 800 times more ground shaking then if it had been a magnitude 1 earthquake. There was about 32,768 more energy than if it was a magnitude 1 earthquake

A recent earthquake which o cured yesterday, happened in HINDU KUSH REGION, AFGHANISTAN at 2:26 A.M. Mountain time. It is not very common to have earthquakes in this region, but it has happened there before. the magnitude of this earthquake was 4.5 and its depth was 86.1 kilometers. i think if the earthquake would of a cured in manitou that we would be able to feel it and that the town wold of gotten damaged.

to stay safe during an earthquake, it is good to get low and to hold on to or get under something strong and sturdy. its also a good idea to stay away from windows or anything that can shatter and hurt you in any way.

weather fronts

Cold Front-when cold air comes into contact with warm air. it causes a storm to occur
Warm Front- when fast moving warm air, comes into contact with slow moving cold air. it pushes the cold air forward which causes faster moving cold air ad soon a cloud is formed
Stationary Front- when cold air and warm air meet each other and there going the exact same speed and have no power over the other, it causes a stationary front
Occluded Front-when cold air meets another cold air thing the cold air with more speed pushes the other cold air with less speed and then a cloud forms
Which type of front occurred this week to bring the cold weather and then snow? cold front
