Good bye 8th grade Earth Science! :(

Hi, this year during earth science i learned a lot of things. astonomy, earths waters, weathering and erosion and the earths atmosphere. it was a fun year and i hope i can help tell you why it was so fun.

i think my favorite thing to study this year in science was astronomy. it was really interesting learning about how the planets came to be and the reason why and how they circle around our sun. we were able to learn how gravity and velocity affects the planets motions in our atmospheres. we also learned what the planets were mostly made of and why they have such weird structures. Another thing we covered was the sun. we learned about how stars form and how they die and what can happen to it when it dies. I think the most fun expierement we did with this subject was when we played with the planets and the sun on the computer. we were able to change the velocity, mass and distance and we learned how it affected it rotations around the sun.

I also enjoyed learning about weathering and erosion. i learned about how over time, water can do a lot of damage to rock, so can wind. i enjoyed learning about how much dmage the wind and water can do, i found it sort of interesting and it always made me want to read on and learn more. One of the interesting projects we did with this was the little podcast we had to put together. it gave me chance to learn more information and i was able to work with somone i hardly ever talked to befor so overall it was pretty fun.

Another subject we did was the earth atmosphere. During this subject, we were ab;e to learn the multiple layers of the atmosphere and how they all had special jobs/characteristics. it was interesting to know how the ozone layer had a giant hole in it and how it helps protect earth. it was really fun to do the little projects on the computer where we had to make pictures/ diagrams. we also learned about how therew were so many satalites in the sky above us.

We learned about Earths Water. That was a fun subject to do, we were able to learn about how water is formed and how it is one of the strongest things on earth. we learned about how it alows creatures like water spiders to be able to walk on it. i learned that water can disolve almost anything on earth. i learned that 97 percent of water in in the ocean and i also learned how water gets cleaned and how we reuse it over and over again. i thought when we did the project on where does out water come from was pretty interesting and i was able to find out where my water came from and how it gets clean.

Overall this year has been a blast. im glad i was able to expierence this and i hope to continue learning about astronomy next year. :)

Great pacific garbage patch

Water cycle

What is the water cycle? The water cycle is a continuous process in which water moves through the environment.

Does the water cycle have a begining or end? no it does not, there is no begining or end. it does the same thing over and over again, kinda like recycling.

In my diagram, i explained how when the suns rays hit the puddle, the water heats up and soon evaporates, then once the cloud that its in gets to heavy, it relives itself and it rain. then we are at our puddle again and soon the process will start all over agin.

one of the websites i visited lately to help me with my science project consisted of information. It was a blog i stumbled upon about the great pacific garbage patch. The blog talked abut how people always think about how maybe throwing a candy bar raper or a small piece of trash out the window while there driving wont cause any damage, but that there are millions of Americans that think that each day, and when millions of people believe that it wont hurt our earth, it soon turns into a big problem. not only to us but to sea life and sometimes even land life too.

This website, Told about how the great pacific garbage patch effects our sea life and even life hat lives on the land. It told about where the great pacific garbage patch was located and how big scientist estimate it is. it told of how much it weighed and how its harmful to animals.

THis website included information about the different types of animals that were affected byt the garbage patch, and how it was harmful to them. it also told of some of the stuff that was found inside the garbage patch.

Essentialquestions

Amanda's Essential Questions.

Whats, specifically about your topic, are you going to research? I am going to research how the pollution in the water is effecting creatures in the water and even on land.
What conclusion did you come to? Birds can mistaken trash as food. sea animals water get polluted with trash and lots of nasty stuff that gets put into the water which can be posionus to the fish and could kill them. What do you recommend average citizens to do to make a difference? I recommend that people start recycling more and maybe taking there trash somewhere else instead of the ocean. Also if people continued to clan up the garbage patch, it wont be so bad.
What would happen if no one listened to your recommendations? The ocean will continue to be filled with garbage and more animals will die, plus the garbage dump will just get bigger and bigger and spread to other oceans.
What would happen if people did listen to your recommendations? If people did clean the garbage patch, recycle and throw trash away in the trash cans, the garbage patch would probably slowly shirk, maybe not totally dissapear but it woulndt be as bad.

Penny lab

The lab i did was the penny lab, I was supose to predict how many drops of water could fit onto the penny befor it spilled over. in my prediction, i said it was going to be about 10. My partner and 1 use a medicine droper to squirt the droplets out onto the penny, our first try we got to 12, our secon 15 and our last 1 we got to 23. The reson why this happened was due to adhesion and cohesion. Adhesion made the water molecules sticky, which made them all stick onto the surface.Cohesion help the water molecules atrract eachother.
